Frutto della lunga esperienza di insegnamento, gli "special courses" sono stati predisposti per approfondire particolari temi grammaticali e storico culturali della lingua e società russa. Di durata variabile, sono esclusivamente individuali.Possono essere scelti come integrazione al normale programma di lezione e seguiti parallelamente allo stesso.


This course is dealing with the system of functions of Russian verbal aspects. In the process of your attendance at the course you will learn approximately 300 verbs of Perfective and Imperfective aspect, and you will get acquainted with the formal principles of the division verbs into aspectual groups and classes, and how to distinguish meaning of verb in accordance with it's form. But the main goal of this course is very practical: application of your knowledge can help you to use correctly different forms of verbs in different situations, and to construct a phrase quicker and easier than earlier.


Do you know that in Russian one verb but with different prefixes is used in phrases like these: "He is not here. He stepped out, but shoud be back soon" and "He is not here, he has gone. He will be back very late"? Do you know, what prefix you need to add to the verb of motion if you want to say about arrival to a particular place, or about departure from it? If you want to have a good understanding of the prefixes' system, you will choose the course "Russian Prefixed Verbs of Motion"! Attending the class you'll remember the meaning of the prefixes, you'll learn how to use them in different situations, and you'll learn non-spatial meanings of the verbs of motion which are very common in everyday speech of Russians.

RUSSIAN LEXICON (30 - 50 hours)

This course is for those who want to continue an acquaintance with Russian language and has provided 1200 - 1500 Russian words, who know basic grammer. The main goal of the course "Russian Lexicon" is to extend student's active lexicon for better understanding Russian colloquial speech. Attending the course "Russian Lexicon" everyone can enrich his/her speech, can make it more expressive, everyone will get a possibility of understanding the lightest shadows of sense in Russian.


Choosing this special course you'll learn specifics of each of five functional styles distinguished in Russian: - official, - scientific, - publicistic, - colloquial, - belles-lettres fiction. You don't want to put your foot in it when contacting your Russian friends or colleagues, do you? In such a case the skill of distinguishing one style from another is quite necessary. A cultured person will never use colloquial expressions in official conversation or speak by elevated style in talk on everyday themes. Experienced teachers will help you to understand all shades of Russian stylistics. You will examine examples of one or another style, you will get acquainted with the most typical characteristics of each of the styles. You will learn how grammer and syntax are connected with stylistics as well. At the end of the course you will be able to use a necessary style of speech in definite contact situations.


Are you still beginning to study Russian or do you already read and write rather well and can you associate with business partners from Russia in Russian? A proposed course is intelligible to everybody as you will take part in drawing up of a working programme and will be able to choose aspects you are interested in and a level of their linguistic difficulty: - Business contacts (talks, business meetings, official correspondence). - Russian for managers. - Russian for specialists in marketing. - Secular life (contacts in the office, at the restaurant, at the business meeting; entertainments, rest; peculiarities of the Russians' social behaviour). All kinds of speech activity are being used at studies: audition, writing, reading, speaking. We give particular attention to speaking as the most urgent kind of speech activity for business contacts.

WRITING PRACTICE (20 - 100 hours)

The main goal of this class is to improve one's writing speech. Varied types of creative tasks will be offered to students: writing of compositions, short stories, even poems!, paraphrases, etc. Writing rendering of literary works of Russian classic and modern writers in your own words will give you better understanding of how Russians express their emotions, feelings, and thoughts, and how you can do that in, for example, a private letter to your friends. Attending the class "The Writing Practice" you can consolidate and increase your knowledge of Russian grammer and lexicon, and thereby improve your Russian on the whole.

GOOD-MORNING! HELLO! HI! (30 - 60 hours)

This course can help you to feel in Russia like at home, to communicate with Russians in really colloqual, not in "text-book" language. To address to people in different situations, to say good-bye and say hello correctly, to speak on telephone, to write an official or a private letter, to make an acquantance with unknown people, to express request, wish, interest, sympathy, thankfulness, to congratulate correctly in Russian - all these formulas (stereotypes) and many other ones are included into the course "Good-morning! Hello! Hi!". You will learn a lot of details, which can make you a really polite person who takes into consideration Russian traditions and Russian rules of decorum.


This course is for those who wish to know more about life of modern Russia. You'll be able to get acquainted with different newspapers and magazines both central and local (outlying) ones. You'll read and discuss newspaper articles on social, cultural, and economical themes. You'll be able to choose the most interesting themes for your course. Non-adapted texts are being used as a studying material which is analysed from the point of view of the language peculiarities. Lexical and grammar exercises are a part of the work with texts. Look into the mirror of the true Russian life!


In ancient times our city was called solemnly and respectfully - His Majesty Lord Novgorod the Great. Its history is a part of Russian historical heritage. Choosing a course "Travel into the History of Novgorod the Great" you'll learn many interesting things about the city, its places of interest, culture. In addition you can get excursions to the Novgorodian monasteries and churches, to it's historical places, to the city museums and even to the Memorial museum of F.M.Dostoyevsky in the city of Old Russa (Staraya Russa). You'll get a possibility to watch and hear Russian folk festivals, real folk songs and dances, to get acquainted with folk crafts.

MATRIJOSHKA (20 - 30 hours)

What it can be, "Russian Matrijoshka"? Perhaps, you know that it is a wooden toy which is painted by the hands of folk masters. In the biggest doll several smaller ones are hidden, and each of them is a masterpiece. Do you want to know more about Russian folk crafts? If so, choose the course "Matrijoshka", and you will learn a lot of interesting things about how to make and how to use Novgorodian birch-bark caskets, boxes and adornments, about Palekh lacquered painting, about Zhostovo coloured painting of metal plates and dishes, about Dymkovo clay toys, about bright colours of shawls from Pavlov Posad, in short, - about real folk art, secrets of which have been preserving and passing from one generation to another for the space of many centuries. The attending of this course will give an opportunity not only to learn new words, terms, and expressions, but to meet with masters who make these unique masterpieces. You can visit exhibitions and shows in Novgorod Kremlin, in an ancient village Vitoslavlitsy, in Desiatinny Monastery, get acquaintanted with the creation of Novgorodian children and students of the school of Arts

RUSSIAN HOLIDAYS (20 - 30 hours)

By old Russian superstition, anyone can recover/reveal a hidden treasure in the shortest night in a year, the St.Goan night. So are you! You can reveal a treasure if you will attend a course "Russian Holidays": you can get acquainted with Russian folk holidays and family rituals. Do you know who is Koliada? What do Russians cook during the Shrovetide? How do Russians tell fortunes during the Holy week? All these interesting facts and many others you can learn if you will choose the course "Russian Holidays"! "Russian Holidays" is not only reading texts, watching video-programs, listening records of folk songs. You can become a participater of real folk festivals: in winter you can see Russian Christmas, in spring - Shrovetide and Easter, in summer - Trinity Sunday, you can participate in celebration of Russian wedding which takes place in an ancient hamlet (village/place) Vitoslavlitsy, and feel the spirit of unrestrained, mirth and light sadness, the spirit of mystery and beautiness of Russian soul, which is coming from the ancient days.


Every nation has it's own essential qualities and features, every nation is interesting and beautiful. And do you know what delineations are more typical for Russians? What do Russians talk about when they are at home, in the office, when they meet friends, etc.? Do Russians pay for compliments? Should one think about what clothes are better when he/she visits Russian friends? What, when and how do Russians usually make presents? Do you know what good or bad omens, prejudices, and superstitions are keeped up for ages, even till today? The answers for these questions you will find if you choose the course "Mysteries of Russians". You can learn a lot of fascinating details about everyday life of Russian people. And, perhaps, as a result, you will destroy some of your own, but really non-existing stereotypes! Varied lexical tasks and exercises, interesting discussions, educational role-games will help you to activize and enlarge your knowledge of the Russian language. You will open many "secret doors" and never get into a comic or uncomfortable situation because of ignorance of Russian national character and it's peculiarities!


This course is offered for students having primary preparation in Russian. It consists of two sections: "Musical history of Russia" and "Russian painting". You will learn a lot about Russian musicians, about frescoes and icons of Novgorod, and many other interesting things. Audio records of secular and sacred music are being used at studies. At the students' wish visits to museums, exhibitions, concerts are possible. You will learn to speak about Russian culture in Russian! We offer you to visit different Novgorod festivals of Russian music in time convinient for you: October - "Masterpieces of Classics" November - Arensky Festival December - January - Christmas Presents February - Stars of the XXI century February - March - Russian Music April - Easter Festival The end of May - June - The Holiday of Slavic Written Language


Treasures of Russian literature, thoughts and feelings of famous masters of the word L.Tolstoy, F.Dostoevskiy, I.Turgenev, A.Chekhov and others will become close and intelligible for you in 20 - 50 hours of our course. The University instructors will talk to you about the life and creative work of the writers you are interested in, will analyze the texts you have read, will help you to plunge into the atmosphere of the works and the heroes' feelings.


A chain of happy and tragic events, destructions and revivals, falls and flyings up... All this is the history of Russia, ancient but still unknown to the end. If you are studying Russian history, undoubtedly, our course will be useful for you, you'll be able to study it in the very heart of Medieval democracy and culture - in Novgorod the Great. Walls and stones of the city keep memory about each period of the country's history. You will plunge into the atmospher of the past, you'll be able to meet historians, archaeologists, museums specialists, get acquaintance with the history of Novgorod, the fate of which is closely interspersed into the fate of the country, visit our splendid museums, exhibition halls and a wonder of architecture - Novgorodian churches and monasteries with their ravishing artistic decoration. And if you visit us in summer you'll be able to touch yourself a real Novgorodians' life of IX - XV centuries, taking part in archaeological excavations
